West Oval
Built to complement the home — and the view beyond
A space worthy of its setting
When these homeowners began building their new lakeside home, they wanted a backyard to match.
It had to feel like a natural extension of the home and make the most of the incredible view beyond.
At the time, the existing space wasn’t there yet. The pool was dated and the property lacked defined areas to gather or entertain. It wasn't yet the calming retreat they longed for.
Planning ahead, building in phases
With a tight timeline and limited future access to the backyard, the project required a unique approach. Before construction on the new home began, our team completed roughly 75% of the backyard — knowing that once the house was built, access would be extremely restricted.
We renovated the existing pool with updated coping, liner, and mechanical work, and built out the surrounding patios, gardens, and key living areas. Once that phase was complete, the space was carefully sectioned off while the original home was demolished and the new one took shape.
Nearly two years later, we returned to complete the remaining portions of the backyard, along with the front and side yards — bringing everything together into one cohesive landscape.
Patio
Room to gather
Expansive and cleanly laid out, the poolside patio creates space to truly enjoy the backyard. Whether it’s lounging in the sun, hosting friends, or simply taking in the view, it gives the entire property a sense of openness and ease.
Fire Feature
Where evenings warm up
Positioned just beyond the pool, the fire feature and seating area create a natural place to gather as the day winds down. With the lake in the background and the warmth of the fire in front, it’s a space that invites conversation and connection during those perfect summer evenings.
Front Yard
Setting the tone from the start
The front entrance was designed to feel just as considered as the backyard. Clean lines, balanced plantings, and a refined driveway approach create a strong first impression — setting the tone for the entire property from the moment you arrive.
Landscape Lighting
A whole new mood
As the sun sets, subtle landscape lighting brings the property to life in a whole new way. Pathways, planting beds, and gathering spaces are gently illuminated — adding both safety and atmosphere, and extending how the space can be enjoyed well into the night.
A backyard that finally feels right
Today, the space feels exactly as it was intended: calm, functional, and closely connected to both the home and its surroundings. The backyard sets the stage for both everyday living and entertaining, while always keeping the lakeside view front and centre.
It’s a space the family uses daily — and one we’re especially proud of (see it on the cover of the 2026 Permacon catalogue!)
