Sir Wilfred Laurier Rec Centre
A landscape completed with precision, even in challenging conditions.
High-quality execution, no matter the conditions
For this project at the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Recreation Centre, the goal was to complete the landscape installation for a new municipal facility—delivering on design specifications while maintaining a high standard of quality, efficiency, and communication throughout.
Working alongside the general contractor, the focus was on executing the work cleanly and reliably, ensuring the final landscape complemented the new building and met the needs of the Hamilton community.
Coordinated on an active site
Our team completed all aspects of the landscape installation, including final grading, sodding, planting, tree installation, mulch, armourstone walls, permeable paving, site furnishings, and hydroseeding.
Due to delays in the overall construction schedule, our work shifted from the fall into peak summer conditions. Installation took place during a three-week heatwave, requiring careful coordination with other trades and a phased approach—fully completing individual areas before moving on to the next.
Despite the conditions, each element was executed with attention to detail and a focus on long-term performance.
Site Furnishings
Thoughtful details, built for daily use
Custom site furnishings—including bike racks and benches—were carefully integrated throughout the property to support how people move through and use the space each day.
Plantings
Chosen for the long run
A layered mix of trees, shrubs, and perennials selected to hold up over time—and installed with the care needed to establish, even in peak summer conditions.
Permeable Paving
Built to perform below the surface
Permeable paving areas manage water quietly and effectively—keeping the site clean and performing as intended over time.
Armour Stone Retaining Walls
Form and function, set in stone
Multi-tiered armour stone walls manage grade changes while giving the site structure, definition, and a strong, finished edge.
A space that thrives for the community
Through careful planning and consistent communication, the project came together as a clean, cohesive extension of the new facility—enhancing both its appearance and functionality for the community.
Even under challenging conditions, the landscape established successfully. With only two plant losses out of thousands installed—a testament to our team’s diligence and craftsmanship.
